I decided that perhaps I should join LinkedIn, a professional website aimed at connecting people...um, professionally.
LinkedIn is kinda cool in that it automatically populates your entire email address so that you can see who's already on LinkedIn that you would like to link to or who you might want to invite to join LinkedIn. Which is what I did. I went through the list and checked specific people that I knew. But then the page refreshed or I needed to put in my password or somthing and it undid all my hard work and instead sent it to EVERYONE on my list.
Now, when I say everyone, I mean absolutly everyone as it populated a list of emails from EVERY SINGLE PERSON I HAVE EVER SENT AN EMAIL TO WHILST USING MY CURRENT GMAIL ACCOUNT.
That's several years worth of email addresses!
That's old landlords, friends I haven't talked to (for a reason) in years, the florists, cupcake lady, etc. I've been dealing with for the wedding, previous professors, people I have been sending my resume to (!)...
..the list goes on.
In some ways it has been okay. Most have ignored my request, some have joined on, some have added me and in some cases I got emails from people politely saying, "I can't join another social networking website! But...how are you?"
The whole thing has been incredibly awkward.
If that isn't bad enough, LinkedIn just sent a REMINDER EMAIL to all those people AGAIN!
OH. MY. GOD.
So. I am greatful to those who have joined or added me and I apologize to those who feel threatened by the persistance and forwardness of this situation.
Sighhhhhhh.......
